Sculptural Garden Pavilions

Embedded in a native Australian landscape, these garden pavilion structures are an exploration of the public art and landscape as a point of cultural interaction and experience with the city gardens.

The stainless steel mesh references the materiality of a sinamay hat, transparent yet opaque, open yet sheltered, mesh provides a material which allows there to be a play on transparency. The design provides glimpses of the garden, the sky, as people move in and around the structure. The shadows created and light refractions of sunlight or artificial coloured lighting on the mesh create different atmospheres at different times of day.  The undulating garden path reveals the landscape as one moves through it, changing with colour and programme as one moves from one end to the other.
