The Kew House is a two to three level house on a sloping site. The garden experience of the house was the key driver in designing spaces where large expanses of wall had an outlook onto these green spaces, and could be opened up to diminish the delineation between indoor and outdoor. The front garden features a reflective pond where the combination of timber elements and water are in harmony providing a relaxing atmosphere. Water is a main visual feature to the house, with a lap pool to the side of the house, providing views out to water from the main living spaces.
The spaces are planned conveniently around the family’s own daily ritual, whilst also maintaining a hierarchy of space for visiting guests. Formal spaces are to the front of the house with the informal everyday spaces to the rear. The plan incorporated all aspects of the clients brief including formal lounge, piano lounge, formal dining, four bedrooms, study, kitchen and wet kitchen, bathrooms, basement garage, home cinema and bar, swimming pool, alfresco dining, and a separate alfresco living space.
